Overview

Academy Hill Grill, nestled in the serene setting of 252 Academy Hill Rd in Grafton, Ontario, offers a fresh take on takeout dining that balances rustic charm with culinary creativity. This food truck, conveniently located near Ste Anne’s Bakery, serves a menu that is both approachable and adventurous, making it a notable stop for travelers looking to escape the usual highway fare.

The heart of Academy Hill Grill lies in its diverse menu, which features standout items like their Napolitano and Hawaiian pizzas, the latter artfully combining pulled pork with sweet pineapple and a hint of chili. Their dedication to quality ingredients shines through in the smoked brisket sandwich and the Ste Anne's Beef Burger, dishes that cater to those craving hearty, satisfying meals. Particularly appealing are the freshly-cut fries, which complement offerings such as the traditional and pulled pork poutine — the rich gravy and generous cheese curds create a comforting experience reminiscent of classic Canadian comfort food.

Tacos represent another bold choice on the menu, with options ranging from vegan mushroom to beef brisket and pork carnitas. While the inventive flavors stand out, some feedback notes the need for a little extra heat or sauces to elevate the balance and depth, especially given the slow-roasted meats’ richness. It’s clear that Academy Hill Grill is attentive to dietary preferences and restrictions; their inclusion of vegan and gluten-free options speaks to a broad target audience seeking inclusive, thoughtful food choices.

The atmosphere here is informal yet inviting. The proximity to Ste Anne’s Bakery adds a rustic, village-like charm, where patrons can enjoy their meals at picnic tables amid a charming garden setting. Staff are recognized for their friendly and accommodating service, mindful of allergies and customer needs — a welcome touch that enhances the overall experience.

Academy Hill Grill serves those who appreciate quality takeout with a modern twist — families, highway travelers, and locals alike. Their commitment to fresh, innovative dishes presented with care creates a noteworthy culinary pit stop that stands out in the landscape of fast casual dining. Whether it’s the inventive Dill Pickle pizza praised by fans or the hearty burgers and poutines, Academy Hill Grill offers a nuanced menu made memorable by the thoughtful execution and relaxed locale.

The best pizza I have ever had! The dill pickle pizza was incredible. Not one thing I would change. I have had (and loved) almost everything on the Academy Grill menu but this was hands down the best. I look forward to coming back and ordering it all summer.

First visit to the Academy Hill Grill which is a food truck located in the lot of Ste Anne’s Bakery in Grafton. The menu is modern and innovative; the food fresh and tasty. We got the Tacos al Pastor, Brisket Tacos and a side poutine (no picture unfortunately). The reasons why I rated the food as a “4” is that there is some room for improvement IMHO: I suggest some salsas/sauces that can go on the tacos to increase heat level and/or increase flavour (a common condiment found at most taco places). Braised and slow roasted meats do need a little something to help cut the fattiness and to accentuate flavour. I found that the tacos were great, just missing a little something. Secondly, poutine was covered up, so even eating them a few minutes later meant soft, soggy steamed fries. A simple change in how they are packaged would make a world of difference. Finding this place in the country was a find indeed! Hopefully more people can come and try it out. There’s lots of picnic tables and more seating in the delightful garden of Ste Anne’s just around the corner.

Stumbled upon this place while in the area. Had the poutine from academy hill grill and a Caesar salad with gluten free croutons. The poutine was delicious and packed with gravy and cheese curds, while the Caesar salad was good for a pre-packaged salad. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there were gluten free and vegan options on the menu! Also had the vegan milkshake with St. Anne’s strawberry rhubarb ice cream and it was delicious!

We ordered a margherita pizza and burger with medium fries for pickup on a Friday night. The food was really tasty and staff were so accommodating to split the burger and fries between 2 boxes for our kiddos. Hayley in the truck was very friendly and courteous. Academy Hill Grill is the perfect place to grab a bite right off the 401 when you want to ditch the drive thru

Staff are very nice and putting in a lot of care into the food. They are very cautious with gluten allergies. The food is okay, I was expecting a little better. The tacos were quite dry and didn’t have any hot sauce to accompany it, and only came with two tacos. I was expecting three, but that’s okay. I would have liked the tacos to have two tortillas each, as tacos usually do. The poutine was good, fries were great, and came with big cheese curds. The burger was just okay, nothing outstanding. There is a lot of effort being taken to ensure it is a safe gluten free environment in the bakery, while the food truck does serve gluten containing foods. I will probably come back for some fries and baked goods, but at this time I would skip the tacos and burger.

My partner and I visited for lunch this afternoon after a recommendation from my mom, it was our first time, and we were really impressed! He ordered the smoked brisket sandwich with traditional poutine, while I had the vegan poutine as a vegetarian. Mine was hearty, flavourful, and so satisfying, it’s great to find plant-based options that don’t feel like a compromise. He said the brisket was tender and delicious. Both of us loved the fries, they were perfectly cut and cooked to soak up all that goodness. If I had to offer any critique, I’d say the poutine was just a bit on the salty side, but that’s really just me being picky! Ordering was easy: you order inside the bakery, then pick up from the food truck just outside. With seating nearby and a quiet, tree-filled setting, it’s a cozy and peaceful spot for a casual meal. We’ll definitely be back!

Got the smoked brisket sandwich which has " house brisket, bacon jam, crispy slaw, arugula, smokey BBQ sauce." The brisket, as it should be, was the best part. Very fresh and tasty. I like the bits of fat that was left on which isn't off-putting at all. The BBQ sauce was also very good and the pretzel roll was fresh. The staff was very friendly and this was a pleasant surprise find in an area lacking options. This was a good buy given that we were already in the area, but I wouldn't get off the highway just to buy this. With that said, I'll definitely be back to try the pizza or others as I'm likely to visit the area again.

Very good pizza! Very good sandwiches! It's a little different in that there are two different food venues located at the same place but you must order your food inside for the food truck that is outside. No food that is made in the food truck can be brought back inside so you must get everything else wanted prior to going out to pickup your food truck food. I think this is because there are a large variety of Gluten Free items sold inside and they do not want any contamination. That is a really great idea! Over all a fantastic meal was had by all six people in our party!
